Anyway, I got this email from my dad (must give him credit), but I gotta say, "DITO."
"In the olden days, we celebrated two February holidays, and got out of school on Lincoln's b-day (12th) and Washington b-day (TODAY, the 22nd). Not long ago, they did away with the holidays celebrating the two Presidents largely responsible for the creation of and the preservation of our country . . . but they added "Presidents Day" to honor all US Presidents (even the liberal, sleazy and ineffective ones). Instead of two holidays, they made it one. Fortunately, however, they did add another holiday (keeping the critical number of holidays at two), honoring Martin Luther King. And who's to say that MLK and his cause are not roughly equal to the combined contributions of Washington and Lincoln . . . or all of our Presidents? Also makes me wonder bout what happened to "holidays" at Easter, Columbus Day, and Veterans Day. I'll bet most students and young Americans don't even know the dates and the reasons for the afore-mentioned non-holidays(not their fault, it's not taught).
"When King George II was told that Washington was going to go home to Mt. Vernon after the war instead of taking control of the government, he remarked, "If he does that, he is the greatest man in the history of the world." And so he was.
"Anyway . . . HAPPY BIRTHDAY to GEORGE WASHINGTON --- Military, political, God-fearing, inspired hero . . . and father of our United States of America."
